I do what I can and I never give up!

Hello and welcome to the cherylhile.com archives. I bought the domain back in 2015 when I set the goal to become the first person with MS to run 7 marathons on 7 continents in 12 months (8 marathons if you consider Zealandia as the 8th continent).

I wanted to share my quest with the MS community in hopes of encouraging others to never give up and to fundraise for the MS Society. I made so many amazing friends during my journey and started Run A Myelin My Shoes (RAMMS) in 2018 to bring everyone together. I am pleased my adventures continue through RAMMS and is embodied by the 300+ teammates who are also passionate about staying active. Our goals are to support each other as athletes living with MS and to motivate others to do what they can and never give up!

I closed down cherylhile.com because I have too much MS fatigue and don’t have the wherewithal to keep up the website. I only wrote two posts from 2018-2019 and nothing in 2020-2021. I added this page to the RAMMS website to remember a little bit of the adventure through a few pictures and Brian’s Musings (his monthly newsletter documenting our activities), as well as some interviews.

Fundraisers

I had a couple of fundraisers: a brewery (of course) fundraiser at Culture Brewing in Solana Beach and a fun run I created The Hile Mile which was held at UCSD. And at the end of the adventure, we hosted a Thank You party at Green Flash Brewery for all our friends and supporters.

Media

One night, Brian Googled my name and found a long list of articles on vastly diverse websites like New Jersey Foot & Ankle, MS Center Atlanta, EthioGrio in Ethiopia, Intisari in Indonesia, SDNA in Greece, LifeZette in the United Kingdom, Italehti in Finland, and etc. I was not interviewed specifically by these groups. The stories they published were summaries (with embellishments) of my interviews with People, Huffington Post, Daily Mail, Fox News and Competitor. I am grateful for their coverage because people worldwide reached out to share their personal stories with me. I felt privileged that people feel comfortable to contact me.

The Hanger Clinic Marketing and PR & Communications teams also promoted my story. I was lucky to go to LA twice to be interviewed for a morning show (MichaeLA) and The Doctors. I was also on local San Diego news at CBS 8, Fox 5 and CW 6, plus WLWT 5 (NBC) in Cincinnati and KITV 4 (ABC) in Honolulu. These interviews are no longer available online (but I did record them for my personal viewing!).

My most favorite video was with Hanger Clinic for the Sydney Marathon mainly because it was my last marathon for the adventure and I was relaxed. I also loved that I was able to finish the journey with two wonderful friends from Hanger, Shonn Goodwin and Krisita Burket.

My neatest interview was after the adventure for an online article with Runner’s World. Not because I was eloquent (far from it), but the fact that I made it on a mainstream running publication. That was super cool!
